For a hero

Hi everyone,
Margaret here.  Today I have a very special card.  If you all remember, a few weeks ago our community faced several fires, one being the infamous "Black Forest Fire" that burned 30% of homes...502 to be exact.  Our scrapbook/stamp store (Simple Pleasures) has called for crafters to make thank you cards for our firemen, with each fireman getting one card.  I made my card today and I am posting it here.  By the time you read this, the card will be happily off on its way.

I decided to make the card in a red, white and blue theme.  If you recall, a few weeks ago, I won a challenge which gave me some spending money at Sweet Stamps.  Boy was that a thrill!  Today's card has an image featured from this company.  It is an open heart mandala.  I am a mandala diva (although I haven't posted many on the blog)...I stamped and embossed it three times in silver.  Then I cut out the mandala in three layers.  I then put some glitter around the edges...though if I did it again, I'd probably use stickler as the glue got a bit runny and globby and you can't quite see the details.  You can see the difference because in the inner white, I used stickles and you can see the definition beautifully.  Then I pulled the sparkly big guns out: Swarovski crystals!  There are 31 of them on there!  The background swirly flourishes are from an old Stampenous and an old Stampin Up set.  I embossed this in sparkly blue.  The sentiment is Stampin Up.

I had so much fun making this card...I just may be making more mandalas this summer.  ALl the layers are popped up with foam tape (see closeups).  The card isn't as sparkly in the photo...but let me tell ya'...this is all sparkle and bling!  I hope you enjoyed...and hope to inspire some of you out there to do some intricate stamping and cutting.  It's very calming!  Thanks for stopping by...til we meet again in blogworld. ~Margaret

This card will be entered into the following two challenges:

  3. What a gorgeous card. God bless our Wonderful fire fighters who put their lives on the line for us. We just lost 19 of our hotspot fire fighters. Our town and the families are really mouning their loss. The fire is 0% contained with over 250 homes lost. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us.

    1. Thank you for your comment Nancy. I have read about the ARizona fire and the firefighter deaths. It is so very upsetting and my heart goes out to you and your community. I hope they can contain it soon...it is devastating.
