I am really excited to share some news with you today and introduce a new product I learned about. We have a really wonderful stamping and scrapbooking store in Colorado Springs--Kathy can attest to that! If you ever come visit Colorado you must stop by Simple Pleasures--they are AWESOME. Anyway, today they had a class and Karen Burniston, creator of the Sizzix Pop n Cuts was there to teach the class. If it wasn't for Kathy I probably wouldn't have gone--so I really need to thank her for motivating me to go. I can't even remember the last time I took a card class.
So the card I am featuring today is a birthday card for a little boy--dinosaurs may not be everyone's favorites but use the card as inspiration. The point of the card is that the outside can be kept simple because the inside of the card is where all the POW! is. When you open it up, there are pop ups and due to the tools you can use, you can really get creative. If you'd like to see some of Karen's cards, you can visit her website here and here. The second site has some demonstration videos. If you google her name there are plenty of You Tube videos to follow along. I really do recommend them as the first time you do the cards can be a bit complicated.
So take this dinosaur card and imagine a cake or stars or anything you can imagine to replace it. Totally cute. The picture doesn't do it justice at all. I have three more cards to share with you from the class (we made four in the class)...and one of them is really spectacular...so hang tight to your seats. For folks who love playing with patterned paper, this is very fun and there's lots of room for creativity.
So let me tell you a little bit about the Pop n Cuts. They're basically dies that you can pull through Big Shot, etc. There is a base that costs about $50. Then you can mix and match various pop up dies to make all types of creations (that basically give the center its shape). In this particular example there are two center dies in addition to the base (one of the dies is called a "movers and shapers". The little star is actually suspended on an invisible strand of fishing line. One thing I do have to warn you about is that it can become a pricey venture as some of the dies need companion dies to make them pop...and you can get sucked in very quickly. Very cute! I take it you enjoyed the class! I have the movers and shapers base, so perhaps you can instruct me on how to do this!!! You rarely do boy cards! I'm proud of you!
